Our client is one of the UK’s biggest and most respected video game developers and publishers. They have welcomed over 250 million players to their world, and their most popular game is based on a medieval fantasy realm. They are constantly strengthening existing living games to create fantastic worlds and brand new titles. The team is looking for a Product Owner/Service Manager (within Development and Operational IT services) to join their studio, based in Cambridge.

The Role of IT Product Owner:

  • Accountable for the Catalogue of Development and Operational Services
  • Defining, and meeting Service Level Objectives for Development Services and Operational Infrastructure
  • Responsible for taking Ops projects from the exploratory stage through to making the work ready for engineers to start delivery
  • Managing internal users of Development Systems and Operational Infrastructure
  • Responsible for managing your service budget
  • Translating user needs into deliverables
  • Managing the Ops backlog - prioritising the delivery of services that best meet business requirements
  • Accountable for the definition (the “what”) of Development and Operational IT services
  • Being the primary contact and facilitating communication between business stakeholders and Ops engineering teams
  • Clarifying requirements where there is ambiguity, and enabling the Ops engineering teams to deliver highly valued services
  • Working with engineering teams to plan the delivery of those services and oversee the development
  • Developing an intimate understanding, and anticipation, of the businesses IT needs and requirements
  • Identifying tech strategies focused on outcomes which you can prioritize into deliverable goals
  • Continually looking at ways to reduce waste and enhancing service delivery

You, the Product Owner:

  • 5+ years working in agile software development teams
  • Extensive experience in hosting live services
  • Broad technical understanding of AWS, linux, networks, databases and SAN (you don’t need to be an expert in these areas)
  • Solid understanding of common development practices, and the types of requirements that developers place on IT systems
  • Developing long term vision and seeing this through until delivery
  • Empathetic towards users
  • Ability to coach and lead teams in Agile and Lean practices
  • Experience with managing budgets and service life cycles
  • Good understanding of information security principles, and PCI-DSS compliance requirements
  • Experience working in a high technology company, or other creative industry
  • Comfortable in a dynamic environment, and capable of refining large amounts of ambiguity into clarity, and of managing frequent changes in business priority (within an agile structure)
  • Experience creating self-serviceable infrastructure and general governance around IaaS
  • Leveraging infrastructure as code is a huge bonus
