Our client is on a mission to make running a business beautiful. They help small businesses become more efficient every day by empowering them with big business technology. We are on the search for a Lead Product Designer, who will craft meaningful experiences that solve genuine customer problems. As a seasoned designer you’ll work closely with Product and Engineering on a variety of projects to build world class accounting and business software.

The role:

  • Working with the Design Manager, Lead Designer and Principal Designer to understand the Product vision and direction and ensure consistency and quality of execution
  • Promoting the value of design and a collaborative design practice
  • Conducting desk research (including domain and competitor analysis, interaction/design trends etc.)
  • Analysing relevant considerations such as research insights (when not directly involved), product strategy and roadmaps, technical environment and constraints
  • Contributing to the definition and articulation of ‘the problem’ – challenging assumptions, and helping to shape the principles and Product vision
  • Creating frameworks (low/high-fidelity wireframes, visual frameworks, content/data models etc) which articulate the components, journeys and elements required to solve 'the problem'
  • Exploring ideal future concepts and identifying new interaction solutions and patterns that meet customer needs and improve their experience
  • Developing phased design solutions that bridge the gap between future and current patterns, UI design system etc.
  • Creating prototypes which tangibly demonstrate a proposed concept/solution
  • Collaborating with other designers to test ideas, share challenges, provide feedback and build quality in your practice
  • Working with content designers to ensure consistency within an experience, 'fit for purpose' and meets customer needs
  • Developing detailed interactions and interfaces which are smart and contextually relevant
  • Communicating and presenting design work to a range of different audiences
  • Creating effective handover materials which clearly communicate how the design should look and behave throughout interaction flows and journeys (e.g. User flow diagrams, design specifications, experience/interaction specifications etc)
  • Identifying research opportunities, planning and undertaking research and testing relevant to your product area
  • Participating in generative user research to understand customer underlying goals, needs, behaviours and pain points (where necessary)
  • Synthesising research data, drawing out and articulation of insights
  • Conducting user testing in conjunction with the Design Research team
  • Influencing, challenging and supporting other designers within your product team to deliver high quality product experiences
  • Facilitating cross functional team workshops, and bringing everyone together at key points in the process
  • Collaborating with cross functional teams to ensure proposed solutions balance user needs, business strategy and technical constraints
  • Working with development teams during sprints to provide design QA and problem solving issues as they arise

  • A portfolio that demonstrates high-quality design outcomes, contributing to user experience and business value
  • Passionate about design craft and high quality user experiences
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work on large design projects
  • Mastery in executing elegant interfaces, with experience across the entire design process
  • Respected by peers, the Product team, and leaders
  • Deliver on schedule against agreed deadlines, whilst maintaining high quality standards
  • Inspire others and innovate to meet customer and business problems
  • Collaborate well with Product and Development teams
